Required Listening

If you have ever wanted to understand what life is like for people like me, people who own and love aggressive dogs, especially in New York City, there is nothing better that you could do than to listen to this perfect, compassionate episode of Piney’s trainer Jolanta Benal’s podcast, “The Dog Trainer’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Teaching and Caring for Your Pet.” Everything she talks about is something that has happened to me many, many times. I have never felt so understood. I wanted to cry when I heard it! Which was just two minutes ago, and I ran over to my computer to post it.

GO LISTEN TO IT NOW. You will be a better, nicer, smarter person for having done so. I mean this is everything I have been trying to tell people all this time, but I’m not nearly so articulate as Jolanta is.

Thank you, Jolanta! On behalf of all of us bad-dog owners. (Not the same thing as bad dog-owners.)

OMG I was just coming here to ask you if you heard this yet?

I cried and cried because I've been having such a hard time with this for years and finally feel understood. People who are rude and judgmental towards me and my dog about her problem behavior don't have a clue what I've tried and what hasn't worked and what I deal with every day.

dear piney and piney's mum,

i'm not really a bad dog but I certainly can be baddish. that worries my humans, i know. they're trying their best by sending me to school too.

Mr Thumper was Very Bad when he was young. he was kept on a short leash for a long time until he grew too old and arthritic to be mean.

In short, my humans have met a lot of snarky people too over the years and still do. So we know exactly what you mean. luckily, we have managed to find a group of friends who all have 'bad' dogs so we're happy.

sometimes, we get snarky too when we meet snappy little dogs on long leashes :p

anyway, thank you for your post and we have also read your trainer's excellent article, that is to say my human has.

good night xox
