To answer everyone: Healthwise Piney seems to be doing a tiny bit better? He doesn’t seem to be in pain anymore, but he still is dragging his butt around and sulking a lot. Still! Upswing! His behavior is for shit now though, so I’m Ghost Dogging him and Ira is throwing him treats all day so he stops threatening to bite him. (Piney-->Ira, not vice-versa ... yet.)
Ghost Dog is a thing we learned about from P’s behaviorist. It’s where when you’re not actively training or walking your dog, you pretend he doesn’t exist. In our case, it’s to get P to stop protecting me so fiercely and insanely, to loosen his bond with me ever so slightly. It is impossibly hard to do, especially when your dog is as cute as ours and so sick most of the time, but dang if it doesn’t work. I wanted to post a link to more information about this technique, but I don’t know what it’s actually called. I think I might have started calling it Ghost Dog? Does anyone know what the real name is?
Again, THANK YOU for the concerned and kind emails and comments, everyone. Big hearts all around.
