Flus, Fireworks and Something Else That Starts With F

I’ve been overwhelmed with work and Piney care for the past week, but here are some things that happened.

There is a new dog flu going around that has a lot of people acting hysterical. The CDC provides some reasonable answers.

Our neighborhood is a nightmare this weekend because they’re doing fireworks on the Hudson River tonight. Fireworks are like the only thing that Piney’s not afraid of, but he is afraid of men in uniforms, and Chelsea is lousy with cops today. The cops we encountered were pretty nice but it’s too bad their job entailed blocking us from taking a walk in our own neighborhood and barring us from the local dog run. July 4 is a crap day for dogs!

P has been vomiting once a day for the past 3 days. We’re not sure if it’s because we’re trying to feed him more and put some weight on his pathetically scrawny frame, or because he has been running and playing really hard right after dinner, or if there’s something wrong with his latest batch of food, or if it’s the dreaded Canine Flu.

We’re going out of town again soon, for a week, and I’m already feeling pre-trip guilt for boarding Piney again. Then we’re supposed to be away for a few days in August and a few days in September, and all I can think is, I’m a terrible mom.

It is really hard to find sweet potatoes at a store! Everyone seems to have yams but not sweet potatoes. But is it true that the things that Whole Foods calls yams are actually sweet potatoes? Then why do they seem stringier and more squashlike? (This is actually relevant to this blog because the sweet potatoes are for my dog.)

Hello,
This link is slightly off topic, but I was reminded of this story by your question about sweet potato. Click here for a very funny story about another bad dog (and sweet potato).
Sorry to hear Piney is still not taking his food well. You are taking extraordinary measures to adapt his diet; it must be so frustrating that things aren't working out. I hope the link above gives you a chuckle.
